Roller Shades

Sliding panels can be used to cover a sliding door, French doors, or can even be used as room dividers in place of a fixed wall. There are a few things to consider as you pick out sliding panels for your home, and this brief guide is intended to help you get a grasp on pricing and cost factors.

What are Sliding Panels?

Sliding panels are a sleek alternative to traditional curtains, giving your space modern, clean feel. With fabrics ranging from sheer to blackout, you can easily filter the light to your liking. The paneling runs smoothly on a track and is easy to operate with a standard wand.

How Much Will I Be Spending?

Hunter Douglas: SkylineR Gliding Window Panels, standard wand control, (Five 17” panels)

  • 75x82 sliding glass door: $900 - $2,350

Horizons: Élance Sliding Panels, standard wand control (Three 25” panels)

  • 75x82 sliding glass door: $600-$1,050

Alta: Roller Panel Track, standard wand control (Four 20” panels)

  • 75x82 sliding glass door approximate price: $2,325

How Can I Customize Sliding Panels?

Fabric: The fabric you choose will have the biggest impact on your final price. The price ranges above are based on the type of material you select. A variety of lighting effects are available to you with sheer, semi-sheer, semi-opaque, and opaque (darkening) fabrics.

Top Treatments: Hunter Douglas offers a few options for the top of your window treatments, including a box valance ($300), a sleek metal valance ($150), or a large square fabric-covered cassette ($275-$300). Horizon’s panels come standard with a 6” valance ranging in price from $200-$250. Alta’s two choices are a fabric cornice ($350), or a deluxe valance ($100). These top treatment prices are based on our example 75 inch wide sliding doors.

Control options: While all three manufacturers include wands with their base model for easy operation, Alta offers a free-floating option for homeowners who prefer a wand-free aesthetic.

Motorization: Alta and Horizons do not offer automation for their sliding panels. Hunter Douglas, on the other hand, charges roughly $500 for their PowerViewR Gen 3 Automation system. Other costs are added for a remote or other accessories.

Large spaces can be tricky to cover, but sliding panels do the trick with an unembellished look. Every home needs window treatments suited to its owner’s needs, and you should be completely satisfied with what you choose.
