How Are Specialty Shaped Shutters Priced In Greenville, SC?

Interior Shutters

When considering interior shutters, there are many options open to you besides the standard rectangular shutter. This article will briefly mention and price a few irregular styles and modifications. We will discuss three brands throughout this article, Hunter Douglas, Norman, and Alta, all of which are known for their high end products. For base pricing refer to our article “How Much Do Interior Shutters Cost In Greenville, South Carolina?”

Design/Style: Two of the most common styles are café shutters and double-hung shutters. For a café shutter, Hunter Douglas adds a 10% surcharge to the shutter’s base price, Norman adds a 30% surcharge, and Alta charges $30 extra per window. This would make the extra charge for a 72x60 double window $30 - $350, not including the base shutter price. Double-hung shutters are similar in pricing. Hunter Douglas’ surcharge is 20%, Norman’s is 10%, and Alta charges $40 extra per window. For a 72x60 double window, the surcharge can be $40 - $350, not including the base shutter price.

Bi-Fold/Bypass Track: Bi-fold shutters are hinged together and run on the same track, folding out to the wall when you open them. Bypass shutters do not fold out, but slide independently in front of or behind each other on parallel tracks, eliminating hinges and folding. For either of these track systems, Hunter Douglas charges $550-$750 for a 75” wide space. Norman adds a 40% surcharge for these tracks, while Alta charges $22.50 per linear foot of track. The dollar amount for a bi-fold or bypass track system for a 75x82 sliding glass door ranges from $140 - $750, depending on the manufacturer. These prices are surcharges only and do not include the base cost of the shutters, which are calculated by square footage. For base pricing refer to our article “How Much Do Interior Shutters Cost In Greenville, South Carolina?”

Triple Track: The benefit of a triple track would be to reduce the width of the stack. Hunter Doulgas’ surcharge for three ranges from $1,050 - $1,450, while Norman has a 50% surcharge. Alta asks $41.50 per linear foot of track. Your cost for the triple track system for a 75” wide sliding glass door is $250 - $1,450, not including the shutter price.

Specialty Shapes: Special shapes like hexagons, sunbursts, circles, and arches, can all be easily accommodated. Unlike the other two manufacturers, Hunter Doulgas prices their specialty shapes separately from their base shutters. For a framed 36” wide shape, Hunter Douglas charges anywhere from $1,100 - $3,950 total per shutter, depending on the shape. Norman does not price their specialty shapes separately, but adds a surcharge ranging from $450 - $1,300 to the base price of the shutter. Alta goes about this another way, charging an extra $10 per linear inch for the longest side of the shape, and then adding that to the base price of the shutter.

Angled Top: If your window has an angled top, each of our three manufacturers will charge you differently. For a 36” wide shutter, Hunter Doulgas will add $750 to the base price of the shutter. Norman will charge an extra $450 regardless of the size. Alta will charge $10 per linear foot for the longest side of the shutter, and then add that total to the base price.

These are the main ways that shutters can fit irregular openings. We hope this has been a helpful look into the world of specialty shapes and designs.
